Culture Values and Behaviours

Every organisation develops a culture but this culture maybe at  odds with what the Board wants or even believes it has.  Do nothing and that culture continues and if it is a ‘negative’ culture  it can undermine everything the Board is trying to achieve.

‘Negative’ culture can be introduced overnight-the company which declared staff redundant by mobile phone text created its culture in seconds.  ‘Positive’ culture has to be nurtured but the change process can be speeded up.

The first step is to identify the current culture.  This forms the baseline but also prevents senior managers from launching initiatives in a climate which they have underestimated. 

With an action plan developed, the Board can determine its desired culture, prepare simply remembered and relevant values and agree the behaviours which they and others must demonstrate.

This has to be underpinned by Learning and Development, honest and regular communication, employee involvement and a review process.
